The Churchill Tank, named after the famous British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, was a widely developed series of heavy infantry tanks. The basic blueprint followed a pre-WWII tank design based upon trench warfare characteristics of WWI. The Churchill was continuously upgraded to improve its sometimes poor performance. It was a low profile tank that had excellent climbing capabilities, but it lacked firepower and armament. By the end of the war, some late model Churchill’s were fitted with 75mm main guns and some had armor that rivaled that of the German King Tiger.
